Research and Analysis:
Research:
Interviewed 10 Spotify users and non-users, and conducted a SWOT analysis of the current Spotify app.
Insights:
Concluded that users feel the current Spotify homepage is busy, distracting, and overwhelming due to its structure and length; in addition to its ever-changing homepage features due to the automation of its algorithm. Spotify users also revealed that they do not use the left-hand navigation bar.
Action:
Sought to address this user experience issue by making the homepage layout customizable and by utilizing bare space in the navigation bar area.
This involved the creation of “widgets” that enable a compact, organized, simplified, and personal homepage experience. It also involved using the previously underutilized left-hand navigation bar to create a checklist of music, podcasts, and audiobooks for quick and customizable widget population to the homepage.
